Story:
James Bowie High School has incorporated an award called, "Student of the Month." This award goes to the person who is the most dedicated and hardworking towards his/her studies. This past January Freshman Jenny Toran has been presented with his award. The student body and the administrators chose Jenny as the best candidate for this award, because of her determination and focus.
"I was surprised to get this award, because of how many students could've gotten this award," Jenny said.
Every month the student body and the administrators take place in an anonymous vote to choose the person in the school that has worked the hardest. This vote takes place at the end of every month, so that the work of the kids is completely shown.
"This is very important to me, because it shows that my handwork is paying off. It also allows my peers to see how hard I have been working and I personally think it motivates them."
Bowie gives away this award to reward the students that have shown hard work and have surpassed there own goals.
"I have had to work hard in Geometry, because it takes a long time to learn concepts. I have gotten all A's, which is something that I never would've thought I would accomplish.
There are positive aspects to winning this award, but there has also been negative aspects.
"My favorite memory would be finding out that I got straight A's on my midterms," Jenny said. "But there has also been negative memories, such as, struggling on getting my homework turned in on time," Jenny said.
The student body and the administration is getting ready to elect another student in February. The teachers have been taking notes and seeing who has shown the traits of the past Student of the Months.
"I don't think I could win this award again, because of how many other students deserve this award."
In order to get his far, Jenny had a few strategies that she found very helpful when it came to getting her homework done on time.
"A strategy I used to finish my homework on time is spacing out the assignments so that I could have enough time to finish it all and not procrastinate."
Bowie plans to keep giving away the award every month, so that every kid can be motivated to push themselves and work harder than usual. As of next month, Bowie will not be only giving away the award, but also a $25 gift card.
